MUNDRO ISLANDS - THE KID OF ASTAMUDI LAKE AND KALLADA RIVER

My dear readers.... okay let me start writing about my native village...the place i was brought up....before that i would like to thank all my friends who read my two previous blogs and who send me your valuable comments.... thank you...so much...... 

okay .... i welcome you to my home....mundro islands....

we will start with some basic information of my place...even though you can Google it from anywhere ... i would like to share some information for you to make your trip a wonderful one. 

Mundro islands is a small village formed by the confluence of the mighty Astamudi lake and Kallada river. This place is not explored by so many tourists yet now. The name of the village come from the resident Col. John Mundro. 

HOW TO REACH MUNRO ISLAND ???

As many of you may feel that mundro is a remote village surrounded by water , but it is assessed by road , railway and inland water transport system . 

BY ROAD :- mundro is well connected by road to all adjacent places. 

From Kollam - through national highway 208 (QS road) - Kundara - Chittumala - mundro island 

From Trivandrum - through national highway 47 Kottiyam - Kundara - Chittumala - Mundroisalnd

From Allepy - Kayamkulam - Karungapally puthiyacav  - Chakkuvally - Bharanicav - Chittumala - Mundroisland 

FERRY SERVICE TO MUNDRO ISLANDS 

 Kollam - High school junction - Anchalumood - Perumon - Mundro island . ferry service is available in every 30 minutes 

  

BY RAIL  There is one small railway station in mundroisland where all passenger trains , memu trains and intercity express (trivandrum to ernakulam ) stops at morning and evening.

2. Enjoy fishing at the back waters by experts !!!!

3. Feel like getting more knowledge about how a boat is made?

 4. Having seen all these do you feel like travelling through the backwaters???

5. want to enjoy a temple festival??? even though its a small place it is blessed with so many temples and will have festivals from the month of feb to april...

6. are you feeling excited...there are a lot more....the highlight of our place is snake boat race which happens every year on the 28th onam ( 28 days after thiruvonam )

7. Visit to a shrimp farm near by 

8. visit the old British church

9. if you are lucky enough you could see the migratory birds 

10. you can go through all stage of coir making etc......

TRAVEL TIPS 

• Even though you are a good swimmer please don't swim in the river as it is very dangerous with its silent pits.
• Avoid throwing plastic and other waste in to river and canals
• Drink purified water
• Take care of your kids , never leave them alone 
• Best time to visit - through out the year..for snake boat race.(sep-oct) for festivals (feb-march)
