SHRAVANABELAGOLA

The new year of 2016 bloomed with a happy news from husband..lets go for trip...yes its tripping time and the first trip of this year is to shravanabelagola a jain temple which has the tallest Gomateswara bahubali statue...this was a long planned trip so on the odd hours of January 2 we were riding across the road to Hassan

Central silkboard - Nice ring road - Thumkur exit - Neelamangala - Kunigal - Shravanabelagola

There was hardly any traffic in mangalore highway and the drive was great...It was freezing cold outside and by 8 o clock we reached the foot hills of jain temple. Parked car and moved downhills . kept chappals in the lock room and started to climb the stairs. 614 steps ahead what was in my mind was that it will be like palani hills where there is steps and places to sit in between. but , steps was quite steep and at one point i decided to climb down..later decided no no...then i climbed slowly...managed to climb the steps in 20 mts with resting in between 25-30 steps ;)

Shravanabelagola has two hills vindyagiri and chandra giri. The statue of bahubali is 58 feet tall and the tallest monolithic statue in the world. This statue is build by chavundarya the prime minister of ganga dynasty of Thalakkad.Emperor Chandragupta maurya was said to be died here after he become a Jain monk in 298 BC.

Festival -  Mahamasthakabhisheka is conducted every year and the next festival is on 2018
